School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) is the first School of the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Considering the importance and value of Actuarial Science, this School has been running a Bachelor in Mathematical Sciences (B.Math.Sc.) program with a major in Actuarial Science since its founding. Actuarial Science is an interdisciplinary field that deals with systematic observation of natural events to assess the likelihood of future risks of these events occurring and help to formulate policies and plans that minimize the risk and its financial impact. Actuarial Science enables us to identify, measure, and mitigate risks successfully.

From 2021, the School is also running a Master in Data Science (MDS) program. Data science is also an interdisciplinary field that combines different disciplines, such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, to uncover insights hidden in huge amounts of organizational data to guide decision-making and strategic planning in organizations. The school plans to run a Bachelor in Data Science (BDS) program soon.

We take students from diverse educational backgrounds and support them in many aspects to do better in their field. We also focus on conducting different skill-oriented workshops, training, and guest sessions for skill development and motivation for our students. Finally, as the executive director of this school, I invite all of you interested in studying its programs to explore online or through a visit to our school.
